WINDHOEK, Nov. 12 -- A Namibian senior government official on Tuesday thanked China for its donation of 600,000 Namibian dollars (40,000 U.S. dollars) to acquire sewing machines for Namibian marginalized women to start income-generating projects. Minister of Gender Equality and Child Welfare Doreen Sioka told Xinhua on Tuesday that some Namibian women who benefited from the sewing machines bought with money donated by the Chinese embassy in Windhoek are experiencing life changing moments. "Most of our women are now able to fend for themselves after we received 600,000 Namibian dollars donation from China which we used to empower some of our poor women with few opportunities to grow their businesses in sewing and garment making," she said. Sioka reiterated that most of the women who benefited from the grant were from a previously disadvantaged back ground and have now seen better fortunes in their lives. "We are very thankful of our cordial relations with China and many other countries who have contributed to our goal of empowering our women with life skills that will allow them to develop their lives," said Sioka.
