KEETMANSHOOP, 08 JUL – Twenty-six learners who participated in the 14th //Kharas Annual Science Fair were selected to represent the region at the National Science Fair later this year.
Twenty-six schools from the //Kharas Region and Northern Cape in South Africa participated in the science fair which started Wednesday and ended Friday in Keetmanshoop. A total of 130 learners were from //Kharas.
Roselie Kaffer, a Grade 11 learner at the Karasburg Combined School, was the overall winner. She will represent the region at a science fair to be held in South Africa later this year.
Speaking after the prize-giving ceremony, Kaffer said she did not think she would win.
“There were so many projects that were absolutely fantastic. It was a mind-blowing experience and I am grateful to everyone who helped me out,” she said.
Kaffer’s project focused on finding ways to eradicate poverty in the region. She found that more vocational training institutions should be opened to enable young people to acquire skills that would help them create employment for themselves and others.
In a statement delivered on his behalf, Director of Education in the //Kharas Region, /Awebahe //Hoeseb said he was proud of the quality of the learners’ work and the quality of their thinking.
“It will frame the future of Namibia in the quest towards realising Vision 2030. We would like to turn Namibia into an industrialised nation with a knowledge-based economy, developed by her own human resources which are you, the learners,” //Hoeseb said.
